“In the first reported case in China of man bites panda, a tourist who had come to Beijing from central China on purpose to see the city zoo's pandas climbed into an enclosure and was attacked by one of the disgruntled residents. He then bit it back.
“Photographs of Zhang Xinyan and his bloodstained legs were featured prominently in newspapers yesterday. He admitted that he had drunk four large beers before stumbling into the zoo on Tuesday.
“Coming across the pen holding Gu Gu, a sleeping six-year-old male, he had an urge to stroke it, and jumped in over the waist-high railings. He then decided to hug it too.”
